But I was also struck by how much psychological research is based on WEIRD subjects.

And by weird, I mean Western, Educated, Industrialised, Rich and Democratic (WEIRD). A fairly recent paper in Behavioural and Brain Sciences (pdf) looked at how behavioural scientists routinely publish broad claims about human behaviour and psychology based entirely on people called Dave and Sarah who live in places like Tufnell Park and Happy Harbor (OK, that one’s where the Justice League hang out) and then assume that they are “standard subjects”*.

Drawing is a cumulative process. You learn, you apply, you adapt, you experiment -- in the long run you learn from trial and error and from experience.

There is no ONE good drawing style and the path is always crooked through the realm of shading, of edges, or light logic, and composition.

I support students' paths through knowledge and skills (tools and techniques) rather than demand a theoretically "good" drawing and consistency.

If you are consistent you are not learning - if you are not learning, you are not valuable to the Knowledge Economy.

I have received one of my first wacko emails due to my role caring for the website of a Friends' organization for LGBTQ folks. It's a gay-friendly wacko, i think, but the author undermines their critique of "agape" -- "Today's churches stating 'agape' love (Jesus' 'new commandmen' in John 13:34) is 'non-sexual' love, is a flat-out lie..." -- with a conclusion that "Jesus has already stated in uncorrupted English, exactly who will and will not be saved in Matthew 25:31-46."
